So I’ve decided that my second album will be a trumpet album. Musically it will be diverse, but the main voice will be trumpet.  It will be a nice change of pace compositionally from this last album.  I mainly got the idea because whenever someone that knew me heard I was recording a cd, they would assume it was a trumpet album.  This was funny to me, but then I thought that that actually could be really awesome.
I know it may be weird to put up samples of an album that’s not anywhere near completion before I’ve even streamed anything from this premiere album, but you’ll just have to wait a bit. ok.

I recently obtained a craigs list spinet piano.  It’s pretty badass and I figured I would upload the first song I used it in.  The song is called “When the Moon Comes Up Today”, which can originally be found on the P. Lacquers album “Awkward Party”.  This version is totally different so I’ve included the original on here as well in case you haven’t heard it.  That’s Chan Holman singing in the P. Lacquers version, the coolest singer I know.  If she was closer I would have definitely had her sing it again.

My album “From Wilderness Cove” is now done.  This week I will be sending it a long with the artwork to get pressed, so hopefully I will have physical copies very soon.  I’ll stream some album tracks up on here when it’s all set.

The premiere Lumpy album, “From Wilderness Cove”, is now in the “mastering” stage and is nearly done… for real.  The art work is complete and ready to be sent away to get pressed.  So within the next week or 2 it should be out of my hands which is a very nice thought.

Meanwhile, here’s a new reggae song that I’ve just finished.
It was going to be on my second album but I’m starting to think of different plans for the next one.  Either way here is some new music that I hope you enjoy.

I was invited to this old time music (americana) jam in a local Albuquerque backyard this last saturday.  It was a lot of fun and the musicians were awesome.  Here is a clip of one of the songs.  Not sure what it is called.  I think there were about 3 fiddles, 3 banjos, and 2 or 3 guitars at the time.

sorry it’s been awhile.  things have been nuts.  the music i’ve been working on in the little time I do have, is either for the next album or finishing up the stuff that’s about to be released.  So here is a not-complete song I am working on for the second lumpy album.  I think I’ll have some more time opening up soon, so hopefully this will be a little more frequent again.

Lumpy – Out There

Here is a 13 minute song by The P. Lacquers called the “Scapera”.  We recorded it in Minneapolis, MN in the summer of 2006.  It basically features 3 songs… (I guess 4 if you include the lovely version of “P. Lacquers from Space”, originally found on The P. Lacquers – Welcome to the World of Music)… called “Relapse”, “Woody and Mary”, and “Suitcase” with interludes tying them all in together.  These were songs that we were playing live around that time but they were too late to make it onto any of the albums.  The main instruments were all recorded live as you hear them.  This recording was never distributed anywhere so here’s your chance to hear it.

The P. Lacquers – Scapera

The P. Lacquers, at the time, consisted of Johnny Becker- guitar vocals, Graham Chapman- bass vocals, Trevor Haining- drums, Matty Harris- saxes clarinet, Bryan Highhill- trumpet keyboards vocals, and Ross Stephenson- Trombone.  Johnny and Matty are both currently in a bad ass band called “Baker London” who have recently released 2 amazing albums, “Jukebox Hello” (has Woody and Mary and Suitcase on it), and “Margeaux”.  I highly suggest you try and get a hold of them (www.myspace.com/bakerlondon), they also have a christmas album up in the “free downloads” section on this site.  Matty also has his dislexically titled band Hatty Marris (http://www.myspace.com/hattymarris) and they play awesome improv music in California.  Most of the P. Lacquers make some sort of appearance on the upcoming Lumpy album, so stay tuned for that.

Red Rubber Ball was a song that was written by Paul Simon and Bruce Woodley in 1966.  A group called “The Cyrkle” made it famous.  If you’ve ever listened to any oldies radio station you’ve probably heard it before.  I made it a waltz, but it’s not always a waltz, there are times where it turns into a total rock ballad of broken hearts.

I’ve been playing with this vaudeville/dixie band called the Sea Saw Sailors.  We threw a 1920′s ball last week at an art collective here in Santa Fe called Meow Wolf.  It was complete with a paper moon and all.  Here are 2 recordings from the performance.  I’ve been out of town, working on music for a new album, as well as finishing music for the current album so this is all I have to share right now.  Enjoy!

I recorded two new covers this weekend.  They are both of Millie Small songs.  Millie Small is a singer born in Jamaica in 1946.  If these songs were not written by Millie then I am having trouble finding out who wrote them. So if you know, please share.

okay I finished a new demo.  It may sound a bit sloppy, but that’s because I decided to add the electronics after recording the live instruments.  Either way it’s a demo and I think it sounds pretty cool.  and there’s no trumpet,  whoah, I know.  Those of you who have old Bryan Rock albums may recognize the music.

On another note, If you have, or know somebody who does have contact with radio stations, magazines, music reviewers, or anyone else that you think would be good to send a copy of the studio album to, please let me know!
